Hi friends! I’m so happy to be back! June is always a tough month for me, but this year took the cake. However, I’m back with a super fun engagement session from Bok Tower Gardens and I’m so excited to share it with you!
This engagement session was very different for me for a few reasons. First, I have known the awesome couple for five years! Second, it was not your standard engagement session. The couple had a theme that showcased their fun relationship and we incorporated both styles into their session! I love changing things up from the norm! We met for their session as soon as I came back from my 2018 East Coast Roadtrip in the beginning of May.
Who is this mysterious couple?? It’s Tanya and Mike! Tanya and I were undergraduates at the University of Central Florida together, and Mike was the assistant technical director of the theatre program. We all became close friends during our years at UCF. About 8 months after we both graduated, Tanya and Mike started dating. They bonded over their love of Halloween and their personalities fit well together. As Mike put it, “She’s loud, obnoxious, and messy. I’m quiet, calm, and a perfectionist to a fault. We just compliment each other.” The rest is history! Mike proposed earlier this year at a Halloween convention, of course!
Mike and Tanya attended a Halloween convention in St. Louis and they took a trip to City Museum. He took Tanya to her favorite section, the caverns, and they crawled through a dark tunnel. He dropped a Ring Pop along the way and Tanya saw it. She said “someone left their trash in here!” He had her pick it up anyways. When she got out of the tunnel, he went into his speech, got down on one knee, and proposed! Then he turned on his head lamp so she could see the ring better.
Mike said that it was very hard keeping it a surprise. Only three people knew it was going to happen and even then, they didn’t know when or how. The goal was to make it a complete surprise, so he couldn’t tell anyone. He knew where he wanted to do it, but left the exact time up to when it felt right. Half the night was spent chasing her around the museum, so it was hard to nail down a plan. He waited, saw his opportunity, and took it. Tanya’s ring came all the way from Russia! Mike chose a band with tree roots because he is her tree. He keeps her rooted. Mike chose an amethyst stone because purple is Tanya’s favorite color.
Mike and Tanya wanted their session to take place in a natural setting. They were looking for a location with ruins or old stone. They also wanted somewhere they could be silly and run around. Tanya ended up choosing Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, Florida. Fun was the major theme of this session and we sure did have a lot of that! From Spiderman kisses and tower building, to tree climbing and tag, we saw and did it all.
Mike and Tanya will be tying the knot in March! Keep an eye out for their wedding day which I know will be a blast! Enjoy a peek into their session!
