Children and Babies
I have just the cutest little face on today’s blog! Sweet Braydon (and his mom Caitlyn) invited me over to their home for a lifestyle newborn session and he is such a ladies man!
My mom is the director of a First United Methodist Preschool in St. Cloud, Florida. She started off as a preschool assistant in 2001 and moved up to a pre-k teacher years later. She worked extremely hard and has been the director for the past four years! In this time, she has had so many amazing families pass through. Many of them have returned in her 18 years at the school! Caitlyn’s family was one of the great families to return with all of their kids. Caitlyn was even one of the students (and hopefully Braydon too)!
Caitlyn’s mom, Lisa, reached out to my mom in late January to see if I had any availability for a newborn session for her new grandson. They were in a bind with their photographer not being able to make their session. I had been staying in town with my mom for the past few weeks helping take care of things while my dad was in the hospital. Since I was in town and am always looking to help others, I immediately said yes. I was finally going to meet the infamous Lilly family my mom always spoke of!
It was a dark and rainy day for Braydon’s newborn session, but we can make magic work with any large window! I met Lisa at the front door and went up to Caitlyn’s room to prep for her session. We opened her blinds to let some natural light in and went on our way! Lifestyle sessions are some of my favorites because it truly shows the family’s life together. It’s not super posed and it relaxes the family to be in their own environment. I’m sure Braydon enjoyed sleeping in his mom’s arms way more than on the beanbag!
Our session with Braydon was a mix of both posed and pure lifestyle. Caitlyn had a vision of a few must have shots, such as with a football and the baby’s bottom, but all of the others were based on what Braydon’s mood was! When he wanted to be held, Caitlyn held him near the window to look at the rain. When he wanted to be a free man, we laid him on his pillow and let him explore. His outfits ranged from suspenders and a bowtie, to being totally naked (which is a whole other story we won’t get into during this blog!!). Variety in these sessions is key!
I always find during newborn sessions that the babies do the opposite of what the parents are used to! This was especially true for Braydon. Caitlyn told me that he was not a huge fan of tummy time, but that’s the only position he was happy in! He also showed a ton of personality during our session. Braydon wasn’t always a happy camper, but when he was, he couldn’t look away the camera! He is also a super strong baby already, holding his head up on his own for different photos. Caitlyn’s pup, Roxie, joined in for a few shots and stole the show!
I was so excited to meet this sweet family and photograph such a precious time in their lives. Newborns change so much even within the first few days, so capturing them in the beginning is so worth it later on in life! Caitlyn and Lisa, thank you so much for having me be a part of your new world. I can’t wait to see how Braydon grows! Take a peek at their newborn session!
