November 22, 2008. My 13 year old self stood by my soon-to-be aunt’s side and watched her marry my uncle. I remember crying at the reception that I would be losing my uncle and nothing would be the same (I was 13 and a constant emotional wreck). Jackie, my now aunt, took me aside and hugged me. She assured me that everything would be okay and that it just meant there would be more people to love. Boy, was she right! During an adventure at Lake Runnymede, I found that to be true more than ever.
It’s 2018 and Jackie and Chris will be celebrating their 10 year wedding anniversary! They have three additional little(ish) ones and nothing could be better. To celebrate their anniversary, and to update the family’s photos, we had a session out at Lake Runnymede in St. Cloud.
The first addition to the Myers clan is Lukas! He is an English bulldog and came in to our lives as a puppy a few months before their wedding. He is the most chill dog you will ever meet and is perfect for their group. Olivia arrived next in 2010. She is a sweet bundle of joy and the smartest little girl. She is in second grade now! Finally, we have Cooper. I have never met any child as funny as Cooper. He is full of wit and excitement, and definitely a boy! Chris would always tell me “Don’t convince my child to love superheroes and Star Wars.” Cooper just fell in love on his own and I couldn’t be prouder! He is in kindergarten this year and doing amazing.
There have been so many cellphone photos of the family and many of Olivia from when I first got started in my business, but the Myers family had never had real photos done. Well, not since their wedding anyway! We met at Lake Runnymede on Sunday to fix this! Cooper jumped out of the car in suspenders and a bowtie, while Olivia and Jackie matched in beautiful white dresses. Chris even willingly put on a nice shirt for his family! We travelled around the first half of Lake Runnymede, with Cooper insisting on leading the way. About halfway through our session, the storm hit.
We knew that bad storms were in the area, but we started early on our session to avoid the worst part. When we arrived, Chris said “Let’s just embrace the weather if it comes. It’s not ideal, but we can have fun.” I never thought I’d hear those words come out of his mouth, but I was so happy to be able to make it work. When the storm came, we were at the perfect halfway point. Jack covered the kids and Jackie with the reflector and we made it back to the car without too much damage. By the time everyone was finished changing into their second outfits, the rain had stopped! Thank you, crazy Florida weather!
On the second part of our session, I took Chris and Jackie aside for some anniversary photos while Jack played with the kids. I don’t think I’ve seen Chris this genuinely happy since his wedding day. Being away from work and stress, the happiness usually comes out. The kids rejoined their parents and we took some final photos as a family.
Chris and Jackie, thank you for allowing me to capture this special moment in your life! I love seeing the kids grow and how great your family is. Jackie, thank you for assuring 13 year old Haleigh that nothing would change and for loving our crazy group!
