Fresh rain was dripping off the trees. The sun was rising behind the Wawayanda Mountain range. It was a perfect morning for a sunrise engagement session on a portion of the Appalachian Trail in Vernon, New Jersey. This engagement session was very dear to my heart, as it was a family member of mine! Steven, my cousin, had proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Annmarie, on Christmas Day in 2017. It was always Annmarie’s dream to have her photos done and an engagement was the perfect opportunity! I had a road trip planned for this year and emailed them right away.
Annmarie and Steven met online on meetme.com. They became fast friends. From consistent texting, to phone dates throughout the nights, and eventually daily Facetime sessions, the couple had found their new normal. They met in person at her work and started having daily lunch dates. A month after they started talking, Annmarie knew he was the one. His personality and ability to make her laugh about anything made everything click.
Jump to Christmas Day. The family was sitting on the couches and around the room opening presents. Annmarie and Steven were sitting on the floor. Annmarie was handed a small present to open by Steven. Little did she know, the best part of her life so far was about to happen. The family was ready with video! As she was opening the present, Steven was no longer in sight. She turned around to see Steven was on one knee. Surrounded by their loved ones, Steven asked her to marry him. She was completely surprised and of course said yes! Her ring was a circular diamond with a gold band and it was absolutely stunning!
As a volunteer firefighter, Steven had always been more of a guy’s guy, so a photoshoot was not his cup of tea. He was such a trooper, even with the most extreme broken arm the hospital had ever seen. Don’t goof off in an off-road vehicle with your father, kids. Annmarie and Steven had a complimentary pink and blue ensemble for their session.
After our sunrise session, we had a quick breakfast at a local diner in town. I learned all about Steven’s accident and caught up on the rest of their lives. Though it was a quick visit with family, I’m so happy to have been a part of such a special moment of theirs. The lovely couple looked amazing out on the Appalachian Trail for their session. I don’t get to see my Northern family often, so this was a special treat. Enjoy a peek at their session!
